Where to even begin? The Ascetic Libertine has just returned from a wonderful weekend sojourn to South Beach in Miami and it was divine, delicious and de rigueur, darlings. Get thee to a beach at once! It is so wonderfully restorative that I just had to mention it.
Back to the business at hand, however--Fall Fashion. When I saw the pictures from Vivienne Westwood's collection, I had very immediate reactions to very specific pieces. There was stuff that I could definitely leave, but most of it was to my liking, even if it looked a little crazy. I mean, it's Vivienne Westwood. You don't go to the woman for jeans and a t-shirt. And she's a personal fashion hero for me, since she pretty much started the punk-as-fashion movement and just rocks in all possible ways besides.
I've ruminated on my choices for the past couple of weeks and have narrowed them down even more. So here you have what really made an impact on me:
I know, I know. It looks like she's wearing a towel and bathrobe. And if you dismissed this at first glance, you'd be kinda right. Except--take a look at the bathrobe. It is the most delicious sweater coat ever. I'd wear it and wear it and wear it and be cozy and comfy and cute. I'd fix the proportions a bit so that the sleeves weren't hanging down near my knees, but otherwise, I'd be a happy little bathrobe sweater ensconced camper. I can do without the harem pants (now, always and forever) but the top is also pretty cool and classic Westwood, with the draped collar and asymmetrical hem.
And speaking of asymmetry, could I love this outfit more? No, I could not. The sleeves would be hard to pull off for a normal person, but Westwood is very theatrical and that's part of what I love and adore about her designs. I love her necklines, which everyone and their grandmomma have been copying for ages. Here are some more corsets I loved:
In a more wearable-for-the-average-person kinda way, this suit combines all of what I love while still being practical:
The collar is great, as is the shape of the jacket. On a person who can actually fill it out, it would look perfect. And the skirt has a certain funkiness with its slash pockets that isn't generally found in suits. It's a suit for a creative person, and I really love it. Another outfit that totally rocks my casbah is this one:
I love the color of the coat and how well it contrasts with the neutral dress. The dress is a standout as well, with exquisite tailoring and detail. Westwood really knows how to cut and drape for the female figure and as a result her dresses are universally flattering. Of course, it helps if it's tailored to you, but when you buy clothing of this quality, you'd do that anyway. For another practical, wearable and phenomenal piece look no further than this dress:
Can we discuss how awesome it is? Because it is oh-so-awesome and probably my favorite piece in the entire collection. And before you get all, oh, nobody can wear that in real life, let me show you this:
The one and only Ms. Westwood rocks it and looks stunning, classy and sexy. Then again, she always does. :)
