Hah! Thought I'd forgotten about the runway reviews, did ya? Well, my laptop was in crisis mode and there's nothing worse than feeling *obligated* to do something, so I thought I'd let it slide for a bit. But Fall is rapidly approaching and there are a few other collections I want to comment on before we're in the thick of it.
Alberta Ferretti is definitely in my top 10, almost always. She does that sheer, romantic, ruffley thing better than anyone else, and it's consistent and beautiful. (Vera Wang's Lavender label is also trying to get a piece of that pie, but I'll review that another time). For Fall, Ferretti experiments with a more high-tech look, combining gold and black and grey and using materials like shiny blue patent leather. The cool thing is that she's still able to infuse it with that romantic vibe she does so well.
Here's a romantic little dress with a Peter Pan collar and tie, using the sheer fabric Ferretti loves:
But with this blue raincoat she shows it's not the only trick up her sleeve:
Could I love that coat more? I could not. And it's so high-tech looking. Not what I'd expect from this line, but it's nicely done.
Here are a couple of examples of the metallic, futuristic thing she had going on:
Different and edgier, but still elegant. And I just loved this LBD:
The cutout swirl in the velvet looks almost like a spiderweb. The cowl neckline is great, too.
My favorite piece from the collection is actually rather plain, but I love it anyway:
The sleeves are wonderful and the jacket is done much better than this dress:
I should like it on principle. It is, after all, purple and satiny and has those great sleeves... But it just doesn't work for me. It looks a bit big on the model, so that could be the problem.
This is a far cry from anything as streamlined as the peacoat, but I like slouchy grey coats (I wore one all last winter), so this deserves a mention:

Next up, the Big Four in Haute couture (for me, anyway): Chanel, Gautier, Galliano and Lacroix.
