It seems that lately every hipster and their 90's-loving mother has come to full-on respect the era of grunge, trotting out flannels, ripped slips and Doc Martens. (I'm personally holding out for the arrival of kinderwhore dresses and smeared, Courtney-Love-style lipstick.) Those of us with long fashion memories can remember Marc Jacobs' attempt at making grunge into couture, for Perry Ellis, no less.
Though it proved disastrous for Mr. Jacobs, I've always had a soft spot for the collection. Grunge is as much a part of my college history as bohemian neo-hippies and indie scenesters, so I am not without nostalgia and a bit of pride when I see that bloggers like Tavi love the era so much (she wishes she was a Gen-Xer, which I adore).Anyway, I'm a professional lady now and all, so I can't exactly go running around with ripped slips and combat boots, but I think I could, without irony, rock these Docs.
The return of the chunky shoe is something I await with bated breath. It's going to happen soon. I feel it. Shoe psychic, remember?
